Things to write in Leaving cards
Aaah, we've all been there - as the leaving card is passed
on to our desk and we are expected to write something different
than we wrote on the last leaving card.
Maybe we know the person well enough to have
an in joke or two to rely on - maybe we don't know them that well, but we
still want them to read our note to them with a smile and a
fond memory of us.
Some people give up and write something like
"Sorry you are leaving, good luck in your new job, John xxx"
but you know - for me that just does not cut it.
To have nothing to say is a desperate state of affairs -
so here are a few ideas for inspiration.
1. Print yourself a load of leaving card stickers
Each one contains a list of messages with check boxes next to them.
I will miss your
[ ]......flamboyant dress sense
[ ]......nose for good gossip
[ ]......tasteless underwear
[ ]......slightly perverted sense of humour
[ ]......ability to talk for ages without breathing in
then you just have to slap the sticker on any leaving cards that come your way
and put a cross next to the message that suits.
2. Use bullet points to express what you think about the person who is leaving
for example:
I have examined you now for x years and here are my findings
You:-
- are a nice bloke
- have a funny line in conversation
- support a desperate football team
- go to the toilet after lunch for at least fifteen minutes
- slouch at your desk
- eat all the office biscuits
but... most of all I have discovered that you are a quitter
- so enjoy your fancy new job with your fancy new friends quitter
and ...good luck :)
3. Describe the place they are moving to in extreme terms of the place that you work at
for example if you work in a place with a controlling
boss, strict dress codes and a sexy water delivery man. Write something like:
I've been speaking to someone at your new work and apparently the boss has a
remote control helicoptor with a spy camera, friday dress down involves
compulsory corsets and white wigs and the water delivery boy is
Brad Pitt - so you should feel at home pretty quickly.
Basically come up with an idea for a format and add your own jokes - nothing simpler.
